Kotkaniemi Museum

Located in Luumäki, 20 kilometers from Lappeenranta, in South Karelia region. Kotkaniemi, the home of P.E. Svinhufvud, who was a central figure in the struggle for Finnish independence. Located amidst nature by Lake Kivijärvi, the estate comprises the main building that includes the home museum, a café, and conference premises, in addition to a garden with related outbuildings that have been restored to their 1930s look.

The museum and café are open regularly during the summer season and subject to reservation and for special occasions from September to April. However, we are open for special occasions and subject to orders throughout the year. We accept the museo card.

The museum is open regularly during the summer season. During the winter season from September to the beginning of May, we are open subject to orders and in connection to special occasions. Museum tickets during the opening hours: EUR 7/5.

Kotkaniemi is a home museum that introduces the life of P.E. and Ellen Svinhufvud and the everyday life at the Kotkaniemi estate in Luumäki. The rooms of the home museum have been restored to the era of the Svinhufvuds and contain original furniture and items. In addition, there is a room for changing exhibitions that provides in-depth information on various topics.

The permanent exhibition of Kotkaniemi consists of six home museum rooms that have been restored to their original look during the era of P.E. and Ellen Svinhufvud in the 1920s and 1930s. In addition, one of the upstairs rooms has been furnished to introduce the era when Kotkaniemi served as a boarding house. In the museum, visitors will be able to sense the atmosphere of the Kotkaniemi estate and the life in the days long gone by.

Stop at Café Ellen for a refreshing cup of coffee and tasty delicacies. The 36-seat Café Ellen in Kotkaniemi serves products respecting the atmosphere of the museum. The café is open during the opening hours of the museum. The café has a separate entrance. Coffee can also be served for groups subject to separate order.

Q Meeting services and private events

Welcome to the historical milieu of Kotkaniemi in the middle of the natural world to organize a meetings or celebrations. The trip will be topped off by food prepared in the spirit of Ellen Svinhufvud and by the magnificent views towards Lake Kivijärvi. Events and private gatherings can also be organised outside normal opening hours. When the café is closed, the café premises (36 seats) can also be rented for private use.
