Salpa Line Museum

The Salpa Line Museum is a military history museum that presents the construction of the Salpa Line, the defense line on Finland’s eastern border during the last wars, and its builders. The museum is located in Miehikkälä in the most strongly fortified area of ​​the eastern border defense station built in 1940–41 and 1944. The museum features reinforced concrete dugouts, trenches and other fortification structures that illustrate the scale and significance of the defense station.

The Salpa Line Museum is a history and nature experience for the whole family. Its diverse services and adventures in the mysterious mazes of the fortress will also interest the youngest members of the family.

Exhibitions and guided tours

In the outdoor museum area and in the indoor exhibitions, you can learn about the construction of the Salpa Line and the everyday life of the fortkeepers through photographs, objects and authentic forts. Experience the museum on your own, on a guided tour or with an audio guide in Finnish and English – and soon also in Swedish and German!

Services

The museum is connected to the Museum Café, whose cozy atmosphere and fresh pastries invite you to stop for a moment and have a cup of coffee. The café also serves lunch, and catering services are available for groups.

The museum grounds can be rented for meetings, parties and events, and the entire museum hill can also be booked for larger events. Bicycles can also be rented from the museum.

The Salpa Line Museum offers something to see and experience for all ages.

  • Lizard Hunt: Search for the lost mascot lizards in the museum area, without prior reservation.
  • Salpa Orienteering: An adventure aimed at schoolchildren that combines history and nature – without reservation during opening hours.

In addition, the museum area is bordered by the approximately 50-kilometer-long, easily accessible Salpapolku hiking trail, which progresses through the landscapes of Miehikkälä and Virolahti, following the course of the Salpa Line. There are good services at the rest stops.
