Located in Luumäki, 20 kilometers from Lappeenranta, in South Karelia region. Kotkaniemi, the home of P.E. Svinhufvud, who was a central figure in the struggle for Finnish independence. Located amidst nature by Lake Kivijärvi, the estate comprises the main building that includes the home museum, a café, and conference premises, in addition to a garden with related outbuildings that have been restored to their 1930s look.
The permanent exhibition of Kotkaniemi consists of six home museum rooms that have been restored to their original look during the era of P.E. and Ellen Svinhufvud in the 1920s and 1930s. In addition, one of the upstairs rooms has been furnished to introduce the era when Kotkaniemi served as a boarding house. In the museum, visitors will be able to sense the atmosphere of the Kotkaniemi estate and the life in the days long gone by. The Kotkaniemi museum shop sells literature and support products.
Kotkaniemi can be booked for various meetings, events and seminars. Separate sauna facilities can also be booked for private use.
The museum and café are open regularly during the summer season and subject to reservation and for special occasions from September to April. However, museum is open for special occasions and subject to orders throughout the year. The museo card accepted.
