Lauhanvuori National Park

Located in South Ostrobothnia and Satakunta regions, areas of Kauhajoki, Isojoki and Kankaanpää.

• The Park was established in 1982 and covers 52 square kilometres.
• Lauhanvuori stands out at 231 meters from the otherwise flat terrain of Ostrobothnia, and it is one of the highest points in Western Finland.
• The vegetation and geology of Lauhanvuori are different from the surrounding area. The area has streams, springs, bogs, rugged pine fabrics and ancient cliffs.
• Moose, hare, squirrel and woodpecker are the basic species of forest all year round. Otters, lynxes, wolves, bears and flying squirrels occasionally move in the Lauhanvuori area. Wolverines are found in the area every year and are known to have nested in the area for decades.
• Attractions in Lauhanvuori National Park include Kivijata, Aumakivi and the viewing tower, as well as Spitaalijärvi with many stories. The viewing tower is Lauhanvuori’s most popular place to visit.
• 20 nationally or regionally endangered or sighted species of tubular plants or mosses have been found in the park.
• The park is excellent for skiing. There are cross-country ski trails running through the sunny pine woods which join up with the ski trail network surrounding the park.
• The park’s terrain makes it an excellent destination for hiking day trips. There are around 10 kilometres of marked trails as well as a wheelchair-accessible route (0.5 km) along the shores of Lake Spitaalijärvi.
• Lauhanvuori National Park is Suitable for visitors of all ages all year.
