Seitseminen National Park

Located in the Ikaalinen and Ylöjärvi, in Pirkanmaa region.

• The Park was established in 1982 and covers 46 square kilometres.
• The area is a typical mix of upland and lowland coniferous boreal forests of the Suomenselkä watershed region.
• Upland areas are dominated by closed productive stands of Norway spruce and Scots pine while lowland areas are covered by sphagnum swamp and bog areas that also contain stunted (Scots pine) and shrublike (Norway spruce).
• These swamp and bog areas appear to be barren due to the sparse tree densities. Parts of the area contain some of the most ancient and oldest forests that are accessible to public in Finland.
• The Kovero Farm (Koveron kruununmetsätorppa), a tenant farm established in 1859, is part of the cultural heritage area of the park. Seitseminen received the European Diploma of Protected Areas on June 19, 1996. It was valid until June 2011.
• The Emblem of Seitseminen National Park is European Pine Marten.
• There are four nature trails and a total of around 60 kilometres of signposted routes (6–17 km) in the park, with campfire sites scattered along the way.
• Lake Aurejärvi to the north of the park is ideal for 1–2-day canoeing excursions. Parts of the lake belong to a nature conservation area. Canoes can be hired from local entrepreneurs.
• There are no maintained routes in the area but the park’s hilly terrain, frozen lakes and mires provide skiers with plenty of variation and physical challenges. Watch out for thin ice!
• Snowshoeing is another great way to enjoy the park’s tranquillity in the winter. Snowshoes can be hired from local entrepreneurs.
• There are about 40 kilometres of roads and paths suitable for cycling. According to the rules of conduct, mountain biking is allowed only on routes marked on map for this purpose.
• Seitseminen National Park is suitable for visitors of all ages and conditions all year, particularly groups of schoolchildren. Partly accessible.
