Infantry Museum

A special museum of military history, which was founded in 1982. The Infantry Museum explores, records and exhibits infantry history from the 18th century to the modern days. The Infantry Museum is located in Mikkeli’s old barracks area, which is one of the best-preserved wooden barracks areas in Finland.

Exhibitions

The basic and special exhibitions offer a comprehensive overview of significant events in the history of Finland. The basic exhibition examines the history of independent Finland through the eyes of the infantry, starting from the events of 1918 to the icy battles of the Winter War, ending in 1945. In the Infantry Museum, it is possible to order guided tours, so you can get the most out of your visit to the museum. There is also a museum shop connected to the museum.

Digital museum

Infantry Museum as digital: The museum’s basic exhibition is filmed with 360° camera technology and can be viewed for free on the Digital Museum’s website. The virtual tour is also suitable for those who cannot physically visit the museum, but still want to tour it. Read more

Meeting facilities

The Infantry Museum has two meeting rooms for rent. In addition to meetings, Ritarisali is also suitable for large events, such as family celebrations and birthdays. The hall has a projector, sound system and a 75″ screen. The space can accommodate about 100 people, and there are tables for 40. Catering can be arranged separately through partners.

In addition, the museum has a smaller meeting room with a large screen on the wall, as well as a long table that can accommodate about 10-12 people

Cafe and meals

In addition to the coffee shop, you can find Restaurant August, Vaiha Savo and Restaurant Talli in the vicinity of the Infantry Museum. Mikkeli’s Officers’ Club, built in 1881, offers elegant facilities in a unique historical setting and is open by appointment.

Area

Mikkeli’s old barracks area has been classified as a nationally significant built cultural environment. The area is one of the best-preserved wooden barrack areas in Finland. The Cannon Park, located in the middle of old barracks, was renovated in 2016-2017 and kept its current form from the beginning.

A museum visit to the Infantry Museum is an interactive experience, where the living true stories of history meet the present.
