Check out the Museum’s exhibitions and events: Museo Militaria
The museum maintains its own collections, produces exhibitions, engages in information service and research activities, offers guidance and teaching services and organizes events.
The basic exhibition of the Museum Militaria is built on the three floors of a culturally historically valuable brick barracks. In addition to the artillery, engineering and signalling, the exhibition tells about the development of the defense forces and the history of national defense organizations. You get to know the stages of history and the present day through objects, pictures, texts and documents. The exhibition also has a few functional points where you can try things like electrification or weaponry.
In the outdoor exhibition area, dozens of cannons from the 1870s to the 1990s and the pioneers’ heavy equipment are on display. The outdoor exhibition area also houses the Artillery Hall, a building for changing exhibitions and a military radio amateur station.
Multimedia presentations: The museum has a 50-seat movie theater, Auditorio Raikka, located on the second floor of the museum’s main building. In the hall, military history documentaries are shown daily during the museum’s opening hours.
The Museum Militaria’s general guide offers a close overview of Finland’s military history through artillery, engineering and signalling. On the Linnankasarmi history walking tour, you get to know the multi-phased past of the area, including the events of 1918. With the weapons instruction, you will delve deeper into the development of artillery, engineering and signalling under the guidance of an expert guide.
Museum Militaria offers customized guided tours and workshops for children and schoolchildren, where they get to know everyday objects as well as military specialties. In the tours and workshops, you can learn about history in a fun and practical way, such as trying out communication techniques or exploring the secrets of the barracks area. In the historical workshop, wartime memories are discussed through illustrations and crafts suitable for children.
The museum café offers guests drinks, salty and sweet pastries according to its opening hours. The premises of Museum Militaria offer an excellent setting for various occasions, such as meetings, parties and lectures.
