Sipoonkorpi National Park

Located in the Helsinki, Sipoo and Vantaa, in Uusimaa region.

  • The park was established in 2011 and covers 24 square kilometres.
  • The park is a mixture of wilderness areas and traditional landscapes. Almost all woodland mammal and bird species of Southern Finland can be found in the park.
  • The area is made up of many different forest types, mires and cultural landscapes. There are only a few lakes in the area. The terrain is diverse and at some points there are large changes in altitude. There are many open cliffs. There are also many spruce mires and small bogs.
  • The areas heritage landscape developed through the effects of traditional farming. Many plant, fungus and animal species inhabit these heritage landscapes, and the area will not remain so rich in biodiversity if it is not managed and cared for.
  • The area’s flora and fauna is indeed diverse and abundant and includes endangered as well as rare plant, mushroom and animal species.
  • The emblem of Sipoonkorpi National Park is Eagle Owl.
  • There are three nature trails that are great for exploring the park’s rich and varied woodland scenery and heritage landscapes. Two-day hiking and skiing excursions are a great way to really explore the park’s flora and fauna. You can bring your own tent and spend the night at the campfire site in Ängesböle or try the lean-to shelter along Kalkinpolttaja Trail.
  • The park has multiple maintained ski trails such as Lake Bisajärvi Trail and Hakunila–Bisajärvi Trail, which form a comprehensive network across Helsinki, Hakunila and Kuusijärvi in Vantaa as well as Sipoo and Kerava. The trails are suited for both classic cross-country skiing and free style skiing. The trails are maintained by local authorities and sports clubs.
  • The steep rock face of Nuotiokallio offers physical challenges and glorious views for climbers.
  • Cycling is allowed on clearly visible tracks. Pay careful attention to other hikers.
  • Get your local produce from the area! On offer are treats such as bilberries, yellowfoot chanterelles, horns of plenty and hydnum mushrooms.
  • Sipoonkorpi National Park is suitable for visitors of all ages and conditions all year.
