(Hostel Tankar Inn) is located in the outer archipelago in the south of the Bay of Bothnia, approximately 15 km north-west of Kokkola harbour. The lighthouse is still in use, therefore the uppest part (the lantern room) is closed to the public. It was lit up for the first time on 15.10.1889.
The Lighthouse can be visited on certain days during the summer. It is managed by the Finnish Transport Infrastructure Agency. The island of Tankar will charm you with its rugged beauty, but the vulnerable island nature and surroundings in the outer Finnish archipelago also require caution from visitors. TANKAR INN HOSTEL Tankar Inn Hostel is located at the pilot station and has eight double rooms. Shared showers, toilet, kitchen and living room. A sauna at the guests’ disposal. The tower room at the pilot station can also be rented for accommodation or as a meeting room. Bedsheets and towels can be found in the rooms. We welcome dogs. Breakfast at Café Tankar for an additional fee. The well-equipped modern kitchen and the large living room area can be converted into a cosy meeting venue. Please contact us if you would like to book the entire hostel for your own use. GUEST CABIN Cosy old fisherman´s hut at the harbour. The guest cottage has a kitchenette and a room with four 110 cm beds in bunk beds. Sheets and towels can be rented. There is an outhouse in a building nearby. A private slot in our wood-burning sauna and breakfast at Café Tankar are available for an additional fee. We welcome pets!

In summer, Café Tankar serves delicious salmon soup with Finnish archipelago bread and a dessert. In addition to the soup lunch, visitors can purchase other café products and also alcoholic beverages. A plentiful breakfast buffet is available by advance reservation.
In addition to an authority dock and boat slips for summer residents, Tankar also has a popular guest harbour. The harbour is protected by a breakwater, and it features fifteen boat slips, seven of which are equipped with electricity. There are no fuel services on the island. The nearest fuel stations are in the guest harbours of Mustakari and Ykspihlaja.
The island of Tankar will charm you with its rugged beauty, but the vulnerable island nature and surroundings in the outer Finnish archipelago also require caution from visitors. All visitors shall show appropriate respect for the unique built environment and delicate nature on the island. There is a 1.5 kilometer nature trail circling the island, with information boards that introduce visitors to the island nature. The trail is not suitable for persons with physical disabilities, and good footwear is required.
