Riisitunturi National Park

Located in the Posio, in Lapland region.

• The park covers an area of ​​76 square kilometres and was established in 1982.
• The area is especially known for its humid climate created by its slopes and winter cannon formations. There are some of the finest sloping bogs anywhere in Europe.
• The nature of area has inspired nature scientists, especially marsh scientists, and the area is the subject of research at the Oulanka Research Station.
• The area is home to several species of birds, including the siberian jay, whooper swan, the yellow wagtails, meadow pipits, and the hawk owl. Bears and lynxes are also regular residents of the park.
• The park was selected as the Excursion Site of the Year 2010 in Finland as a result of the public vote.
• The Emblem of Riisitunturi National Park is Hawk Owl and crown snow topped spruce branches.
• The area has a breathtaking hiking destination all year round. There are winter and summer trails, short and one day trails, a total of over 40 km.
• Snowshoeing offers the opportunity to enjoy the magic of the moonlit night and the dazzling spring sun. The park is known as a paradise for winter hikers. Snowshoeing also gives you the chance to see and photograph the magnificent details in the landscape.
• In the area you can pick bolete, russula, milk caps, bilberries, lingonberries, cloudberries and crowberries.
• There are hunting pits along the esker range in the stretch between the Liittolammet Ponds. They remind us of ancient Sámi culture. The barns and the lean-to shelters that were used by meadow mowers reflect the thriving meadow culture of former times.
• Riisitunturi National Park is suitable for people of all ages and beginners as well. It is a good destination for cross-country skiers, snowshoers, trekkers, bird watchers and photographers.
