Puurijärvi and Isosuo National Park

Located in the areas of Huittinen, Kokemäki and Sastamala, in Pirkanmaa and Satakunta regions.

• The Park was established in 1993 and covers 28 square kilometres.
• The area is dominated by a mire, and is a bird paradise in the middle of a heritage landscape.
• The area of Lake Puurijärvi is almost overgrown. In Finland it is one of the lakes with largest number of birds. On the lake shores, there are flood meadows and moist bushland.
• Lake Puurijärvi is one of the important bird habitats in Finland (FINNIBA), and it has been proposed for inclusion in the Ramsar List of Wetlands of International Importance.
• The Emblem of Puurijärvi and Isosuo National Park is Yellow Water-lily and Four-spotted Chaser.
• The bird watching tower on Kärjenkallio Rock is one of the biggest in the Nordic countries. From there you get a good view over the lake and its surroundings.
• There is an observation tower also on the northern side of Isosuo Mire, on the southern side of Puurijärvi (Mutilahti) and on the northern side of Puurijärvi (Ahvenus).
• You can pick up refreshing cranberries from the swamp in late autumn or enjoy sweet blueberries in the forest.
• A great way to experience the national park is to go canoeing to park along the Kokemäenjoki and Ala-Kauvatsanjoki rivers.
• Three marked trails (0.5–2 km) to the bird watching towers. The trails introduce hikers to mire ecosystems, birdlife and vegetation.
• Puurijärvi and Isosuo National Park is suitable for visitors of all ages all year. The Kärjenkallio bird watching tower is suitable for visitors with mobility difficulties.
